Black bean & tempeh burgers + Homemade buns !

K this is gonna be a long post, but hopefully helpful ? I made hamburger buns for the first time & they came out so good. I've been getting more confident with dough lately & it's been showing in the outcomes (THANKFULLY !) This was also very easy - found this recipe & got to work : )

I didn't take too many pics of the process, but here's the ones I did get ! I didn't divide them perfectly before baking because I wanted different sizes.

Now onto the burgers. I found a recipe for black bean burgers & subbed a couple things/added tempeh. Here's my modified recipe:

Dried out 1 can of black beans in the oven first & as that was going chopped the onion/garlic/pepper in the food processor. Then sauteed it quickly. I kinda wish I hadn't cooked it because it resulted in a lot of liquid in the mix. Next time I'll just throw everything in the food processor.

Then in the food processor added the crumbled tempeh on the bottom & beans & everything elsed & pulsed til chunky & mixed. I used panko bread crumbs & had to actually double it because they didn't absorb much of the liquid. Also added 1/4 tsp of liquid smoke. Then pressed the mix into a tupperware to chill.

 Then the next day (today) I toasted up the buns & heated up the cast iron with some oil & formed a patty.. fried it up !

Put a little mayo on the bun - greens - massive patty - veg bacon - jalapeno slices - red onion - avocado, then booM ! Done.


 My hubs enjoyed that for dinner. I'm still super full from some lazy takeout I had earlier. So I had one of my fave snacks - avocado with liquid aminos, lil roasted sesame oil & black sesame seeds. So good !
